About this event

Since 2012, the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo has hosted the Hip Hop Gala, where leading rap, breakdance, graffiti and DJ collectives from Bogotá’s Suba and Usaquén districts present their music and urban culture to the public. Supported by the city’s Secretariat of Culture, Recreation and Sport and the local mayoralties of Suba and Usaquén, the event highlights the many expressions of hip hop as tools for social transformation, resistance, collective creation and community building. The gala is a space for gathering, visibility and recognition for those who, through urban art, drive pedagogical and cultural processes in their neighborhoods. Hip hop emerges here as a form of catharsis, bringing to light stories in which art becomes a way to express emotions, narrate personal and collective experiences, and resist through creation.
