About this event
Conductor Alexander Shelley leads the Pacific Symphony in a program that bridges the concert hall and the silver screen. The evening opens with Paul Dukas’s orchestral magic in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, widely recognized from Disney’s Fantasia. Violinist James Ehnes stars in James Newton Howard’s expansive Violin Concerto No. 2, bringing the voice of a renowned film composer to the symphonic stage. The concert concludes with Richard Strauss’s dramatic tone poem Also sprach Zarathustra, famed for its sunrise fanfare immortalized in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. A pre-concert Preview Talk with Classical California host Alan Chapman takes place at 7:00 p.m. before each 8:00 p.m. performance.
