This staging of Turandot perfectly embraces the highly stylized aesthetic of the renowned director Robert Wilson, who passed away in 2025. Originally created in 2018 at the Teatro Real in Madrid, this production marks Wilson's final directorial work for the Paris Opera. The staging is characterized by its strikingly beautiful imagery, utilizing Wilson's signature minimalist approach to lighting, movement, and spatial design to evoke the legendary, exotic China of the tale. The production is a major collaborative effort, co-produced by the Opéra national de Paris alongside the Teatro Real (Madrid), the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet (Vilnius), the Canadian Opera Company (Toronto), and the Houston Grand Opera. The creative team includes set design by Stephanie Engeln, costumes by Jacques Reynaud, and lighting by John Torres, all working in concert to realize Wilson's distinct visual vocabulary.
