Pop Jazz Latin Folk Chanson Concert
Following a late-September program of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and Bernstein, the Orchestre de Paris turns to Berlioz’s dramatic symphony inspired by the legendary lovers of Verona. The concerts also mark the 50th anniversary of the Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris. Berlioz discovered Shakespeare in 1827 and, after a decade of envisioning his own Romeo and Juliet, began composing the work in early 1839. The result is a hybrid score—a symphony with voices and choruses—that the composer defined as a "symphonie dramatique." The production features leading soloists of the French repertoire. Notably, Marianne Crebassa brings a warm, velvety timbre ideally suited to the demands of this extraordinary work.
