About this event

Longtime musical partners Renaud and Gautier Capuçon reunite in Brahms’s Double Concerto for Violin and Cello under the baton of Jaap van Zweden, who also returns to Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. Brahms once called the concerto a “folly,” though his last, first conceived for cello before it became an opportunity to reconcile with Joseph Joachim, the dedicatee of the Violin Concerto with whom he had fallen out. “To the one for whom it was written,” Brahms noted on his manuscript. From this friendship flows a deep harmony that sustains three broad, serious movements shaped by a fraternal dialogue between the two instruments. The concert is part of a European tour supported by Radio France.
