Het Concertgebouw and AVROTROS present the family Christmas concert The Nutcracker, bringing the classic Christmas fairytale to life in a contemporary, bold way. Writer Miriam Bouwens and director Yvonne van den Eerenbeemt give this classic a fresh framing for a morning audience. At its heart is the question of why a princess dress couldn't be swapped for a judo suit — a modern twist on the traditional story. The musical performance remains timeless: Tchaikovsky’s famous score from The Nutcracker is performed by the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie conducted by Sander Teepen. Narrator Dzifa Kuzenuh guides the story, making it accessible for children aged six and up (6+). The family concert runs from 11:00 to 12:00 with no intermission. This production blends a classical symphonic ballet program with contemporary narration and modern directorial touches, tailored to a young audience and their companions.
