This concert production explores the cultural and artistic turning point of Vienna in the early twentieth century. Set against a backdrop of rapid industrialization, the emergence of psychoanalysis, and escalating social tensions, the program highlights an era where familiar worldviews and the refined styles of the fin de siècle began to lose their hold. In response, the boundaries of artistic expression were radically expanded across music, literature, and the visual arts. Conductor Alain Altinoglu leads the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra in showcasing three masterpieces from this transformative period. Composers Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern, and Alexander von Zemlinsky each sought a new sound idiom that, while deeply rooted in late Romanticism, was unmistakably oriented toward the future. The production emphasizes the sensory and emotional depth of these works, demanding that the audience surrender completely to the listening experience.
