Co-presented by the Orchestre de chambre de Paris and the Théâtre du Châtelet, this program surveys Austrian music through three key moments in its history. It also nods to the orchestra’s own story, nearly fifty years after Haydn’s Symphony No. 49 entered its repertoire under Daniel Barenboim in 1977. Led by conductor Izabelė Jankauskaitė, the evening challenges the labels commonly attached to these three towering names. Schoenberg’s music is heard where we might least expect it—engaging with the founding myth of modernity even as, in Danielle Cohen-Levinas’s words, it stages its own undoing.
