Vienna is the cradle of major artistic revolutions in this concept program. The Orchestre de chambre de Paris sets a mirror dialogue between two Viennese moments a century apart: Beethoven at the dawn of Romanticism and Webern at the emergence of dodecaphony. The concert contrasts the airy, joyful plenitude of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and his classically rooted Eighth Symphony with the radical concision and color of Webern’s Symphony Op. 21 and his orchestration of the Five Movements Op. 5. Philipp von Steinaecker reunites with the orchestra, and violinist Alena Baeva is the soloist in Beethoven. A pre-concert talk (Clés d’écoute) precedes the performance, with doors opening one hour before the concert.
