This program builds a bridge across the years between Mozart’s galant style and Françaix’s neoclassical adventures. Both composers, former child prodigies with turbulent careers, share a striking maturity in their early works and a gift for captivating audiences while preserving a strong artistic identity. Juxtaposing their clarinet quintets reveals these affinities: Mozart’s lively, light movements take on a mischievous edge in Françaix, while both composers’ slow movements captivate with melodic genius and emotional depth. The concert highlights how the first composer’s suave harmonies nourish the boldness of the second, all under the aegis of a clarinet that is by turns warm and cheeky. A short introductory talk entitled “Listening Keys” will be offered at the start of the concert to enrich the musical experience.
