About this event
The concert “MDR CLASSIC guest in Wernigerode – Winter Dreams” brings together orchestral works that revolve around wintry and festive moods. The evening opens with Alexander Glazunov’s ballet suite “Winter” from The Seasons, Op. 67, followed by Frederick Delius’s Sleigh Ride, one of the British composer’s rarely heard short orchestral pieces. Next comes Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s charming orchestral suite The Snowman, based on the film music for the 1931 silent classic of the same name. Émile Waldteufel’s waltz Les Patineurs, Op. 183 (The Skaters), concludes the first half. After the interval, the program culminates with the ballet suite from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Op. 20a, one of the most famous works in ballet literature. The MDR Symphony Orchestra performs under the direction of the American-Canadian conductor Kyrian Friedenberg.
