About this event

The Next 75 (Song Cycle) is a world-premiere project commissioned for the 75th anniversary of Wexford Festival Opera. Conceived by novelist Colm Tóibín, who provides the lyrics and creative direction, and composed by Conor Linehan, the cycle imagines the festival 75 years from now. Presented as a late-night experience at Green Acres Gallery, it blends speculative fiction with music, envisioning a future Wexford where tides have risen and technology has accelerated—where even robots may fall in love and sing. Despite its futuristic frame, the work centers on timeless human elements: the expressive power of the voice, the intimacy of duets, and musical beauty. The intimate staging features a soprano and a tenor with the composer at the piano. Across three nights in the first week, five brand-new songs are premiered each evening (15 in total), with the full program repeated on three dates in the second week.
