About this event

Born in Rostock in 1971, Dorit Linke created a gripping, cinematic novel with her 2014 book "Beyond the Blue Border." The story seems unbelievable, yet it was reality for around 5,000 citizens of the GDR—so many people attempted to flee across the Baltic Sea. In 2015, the tale of two teenagers' daring escape was nominated for the German Youth Literature Prize; since 2018, the work has been staged multiple times in eastern German theatres and in 2024 it appeared as a film of the same name. The production at the Junges Theater Regensburg (recommended for ages 14+) is directed by Oda Zuschneid with stage and costume design by Ins Meyer. The theatre generally offers post-show discussions for this production to help young audiences process the historical and emotional themes of the piece.
