Oratorio / Orchestral Concert
This concert production brings together two monumental works from the late 18th century, pairing Joseph Haydn's final symphony with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's unfinished masterpiece. The program opens with Haydn's Symphony in D major, Hob. I/104, known as the "Salomon" or "London" Symphony, composed in 1795. Following an intermission, the focus shifts to the sacred realm with Mozart's Requiem in D minor, K 626, from 1791. The artistic vision is shaped by renowned early music specialist Ton Koopman, who leads the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Singakademie. The casting reflects a historically informed approach to the vocal lines, notably featuring countertenor Maarten Engeltjes in the alto solo role, alongside soprano Julia Lezhneva, tenor Julian Prégardien, and bass-baritone Krešimir Stražanac. The production is presented by the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft as part of their subscription series, in cooperation with the Wiener Symphoniker.
