About this event
This concert brings together the French period-instrument choir and orchestra Pygmalion, led by its founder Raphaël Pichon, for a program centered on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s monumental Great Mass in C minor. Presented by the Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft in the Großer Saal, the event forms part of the venue’s Vokalklang series spotlighting leading choral and vocal artistry. Mozart’s unfinished masterpiece is paired with two poignant sacred works by Franz Schubert from 1815: the canon Lacrimosa son io and the Stabat mater. The curation bridges late Classical and early Romantic styles, highlighting themes of mourning and spiritual reflection. A distinguished quartet of soloists—soprano Sabine Devieilhe, mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre, tenor Kieran Carrel, and bass Huw Montague Rendall—joins Pygmalion and Raphaël Pichon for this evening.
