About this event

Rachel Beaujean and Colin Richmond present a new version of the ballet for the Opéra National de Bordeaux. The production traces the work’s evolution from Marius Petipa to Rudolf Nureyev and is a collaboration between the Bordeaux Opera and Northern Ballet. It gives particular psychological emphasis to Odette, presenting her not only as a victim but also as a woman who chooses her destiny. The staging explores the tension between nature and society and addresses domination, inheritance, and emancipation. The ending is reinterpreted as an act of freedom rather than inevitable fate. Colin Richmond is responsible for scenography, sets, and costumes; Alastair West for lighting; and Uzma Hameed for dramaturgy. Maria Seletskaja conducts from 9 to 23 December, and Judith Yan from 26 December to 3 January. The Ballet de l’Opéra National de Bordeaux and Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine participate in the production.
