New York Philharmonic — Gustavo Dudamel — León • Mahler – Musikverein Wien, Vienna

About this event

This concert presentation pairs contemporary orchestral innovation with monumental late-Romantic repertoire, serving as a showcase for the New York Philharmonic under the leadership of Gustavo Dudamel. The programming reflects Dudamel's artistic vision for his tenure with the orchestra, juxtaposing a newly commissioned work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Tania León with Mahler's passionate and expansive Fifth Symphony. The performance in Vienna's historic Großer Saal marks the Austrian premiere of León's Imágenes Mestizas, highlighting the ensemble's commitment to bringing new American and contemporary voices to traditional European cultural centers. The concert is structured with a formal interval separating the contemporary premiere from the Mahler symphony, allowing the audience to transition between the distinct sonic worlds of the two composers.
