Irish National Opera presents a brand new production of Bizet’s Carmen, co-produced with Opera Philadelphia and Seattle Opera, and presented in partnership with the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. Directed by Paul Curran, the staging features set and costume designs by Gary McCann, lighting by Paul Hackenmueller, and choreography by Muirne Bloomer. The production celebrates the irresistible energy and unforgettable color of Bizet’s score, bringing to life the fiery drama of opera’s great independent and sensual woman. The Irish National Opera Orchestra and Chorus perform under the baton of Fergus Sheil. The cast stars Irish mezzo-soprano Niamh O’Sullivan as Carmen, Brazilian tenor Atalla Ayan as Don José, Australian soprano Stacey Alleaume as Micaëla, and Serbian baritone David Bizic as the swaggering toreador Escamillo.
