The 291st installment of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra’s Matinee Series presents a Romantic European program at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre on consecutive afternoons. Under the baton of Leslie Suganandarajah, the orchestra traverses Dvořák’s vibrant Polonaise from Rusalka, Chopin’s poetic Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Alexander Gadjiev, and Schumann’s expansive “Rhenish” Symphony. The program balances Slavic color and lyricism with German symphonic architecture, spotlighting virtuosity in the concerto and structural breadth in the symphony. Produced by the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra with co-production support from Yomiuri Shimbun, Nippon Television Network, Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, and Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.
