Guitar sensation JIJI—hailed by The Washington Post as one of the 21 composers/performers who sound like tomorrow—joins the orchestra for Steven Mackey’s Aluminum Flowers, a concerto that fuses rock ’n’ roll cool with stunning virtuosity by requiring both classical and electric guitar. The evening opens with Stravinsky’s distinctive Symphonies of Wind Instruments, setting the stage for a bold and varied program. The experience promises something unlike anything you’ve ever seen in a concert hall. Approximate duration is 120 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. Doors open 60 minutes before the performance; there is no prelude. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
