This Thanksgiving weekend concert is framed as a sumptuous musical feast led by Music Director Juraj Valčuha. The artistic concept bridges cinematic romance, orientalist fantasy, and fairy-tale charm. The performance opens with the soaring, lavishly romantic music from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film Vertigo, composed by the legendary Bernard Herrmann. Following this cinematic introduction, the orchestra is joined by mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke to perform Ravel’s bewitching Shéhérazade, transporting the audience to the magical realm of the One Thousand and One Nights. The program concludes with Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 7, a piece originally conceived for a children's radio program that sparkles with twinkling charm and fairy-tale magic.
