More than 50 years after American Pie reshaped popular music, legendary American singer-songwriter Don McLean returns to Australia to mark the song's 55th anniversary. Released in 1971, the nearly nine-minute track reflects on the end of rock and roll following the tragic plane crash deaths of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens, and spent four weeks at the top of the US Billboard Charts. Still touring at 81 years old, McLean continues to perform to sold-out theatres across the globe, bringing a catalogue woven into the cultural fabric of the late 20th century. His concerts are designed as shared memories brought to life, where McLean reflects on the stories behind his enduring songs, adding intimacy and depth to the live experience. The tour offers Australian audiences an opportunity to reconnect with his extensive back catalogue, which spans 21 studio albums including his 2024 release, American Boys.
