Lennox is an energetic, contemporary hip-hop youth opera (8+) about family, friendship, and courage. Co-produced by RIGHTABOUTNOW INC. and Dutch National Opera, it adapts Zindzi Zevenbergen’s award-winning children’s book Lennox en de gouden sikkel, which addresses sickle cell anaemia. The staging draws on the vivid, prize-winning illustrations by Hedy Tjin and Brian Elstak, creating a colorful, fast-moving world. The show marks the operatic debut of multi-instrumentalist and producer Bnnyhunna (Benjamin Ankomah). His score blends jazz, gospel, Afro, soul, and classical music into a dynamic musical language. Director Marjorie Boston and librettist Maarten van Hinte shape these elements into an adventurous, one-hour performance sung in Dutch.
