Following his 2022 composition Die andere Frau for the Semperoper, composer Torsten Rasch returns to Dresden with a new chamber opera. Die wunderbaren Jahre is a piece of music theatre that probes the friction between systemic conformity and individuality. At its core is the question: Can standardized freedom be completely wonderful? The staging interweaves the original narrative with various folk songs to depict coming of age caught between repression, rebellion, disillusionment, and dreams.
