This staging of Bess Wohl's Small Mouth Sounds introduces a unique technical element to the Bille Brown Theatre: an audio-immersive intimacy engineered by the independent collective Counterpilot. Each audience member is provided with their own set of headphones to experience the production's soundscape, allowing them to tune into every surreptitious whisper, heavy sigh, and smothered snort-laugh that occurs during the characters' silent retreat. The production is directed by Bridget Boyle and Nathan Sibthorpe, with set and costume design by Isabel Hudson, lighting design by Christine Felmingham, and composition and sound design by Mike Willmett. Content advisories: the production contains mature themes, mild infrequent coarse language, and full frontal male nudity. It is recommended for audiences aged 15 and older, and the Queensland Theatre notes that the play is not recommended for school audiences.
