Adapted for the Australian stage for the first time, E. M. Forster’s sweeping romance receives an injection of contemporary flair. Playwright Grace Chapple and director Hannah Goodwin deliver a mischievous interpretation for a new era, pulsing with humour and fervour. The production was commissioned by Belvoir St Theatre, who also serves as the co-producer for this staging. The production contains mature themes and is recommended for ages 15+ (Years 10–12). The staging includes sensitive political and gender commentary, reflecting the highly restricted roles of women during the era. It also features references to and depictions of nudity (including a scene where characters remove their clothes to go skinny dipping), poverty, violence, and class commentary.
