Thüringer Staatsballett brings Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairy tale The Snow Queen to the stage as a new classical ballet for the 2026/27 season, produced by Theater Altenburg Gera. Choreographed by Vitaliy Petrov and set to the music of Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the production is designed for families and classical ballet lovers alike. Tchaikovsky’s music is chosen for its uniquely evocative winter atmosphere. The staging relies on striking visual imagery, impressive choreography, and a touching narrative approach that makes Andersen’s story feel fresh and immediate. At its heart, the ballet explores friendship, courage, and the power of love—forces strong enough to warm even the coldest heart. The visual world is created by Timur Kinzikeev, who designs both sets and costumes, with dramaturgy by Liubov Morozova.
