The concert takes place at Jazzhaus Freiburg, a renowned venue in a historic wine cellar not far from the main station that has played a central role in Freiburg’s music scene since the late 1980s. The intimate layout of stage and auditorium enables an especially close concert experience. Iiro Rantala is a Finnish pianist who moves with virtuosity along the border between jazz and classical music. He became known through the Trio Töykeät, with which he performed internationally for almost 20 years, before turning, with albums such as "Lost Heroes" (ACT), more toward the power of melody, harmony, and deep emotion. He is a recipient of the German Record Critics’ Award (Jahrespreis), the ECHO Jazz, and Finland’s EMMA Award.
