Viktoria Tolstoy & Jacob Karlzon — Who We Are – Jazzhaus Freiburg Im Breisgau, Freiburg im Breisgau

About this event

This touring production presents an intimate duo format featuring Swedish jazz vocalist Viktoria Tolstoy and pianist/keyboardist Jacob Karlzon. The concerts serve as a live realization of their collaborative album “Who We Are,” slated for release on January 30, 2026. The production highlights a musical partnership that began in the mid-1990s during a UK tour and has since evolved through multiple joint recordings, including their acclaimed 2013 duo album “A Moment of Now.” The artistic vision centers on the seamless interplay between soloist and accompanist, a dynamic Karlzon describes as “two soulmates at eye level.” The staging is minimal, focusing entirely on the acoustic and electronic textures generated by the duo. Karlzon’s instrumental setup typically includes a grand piano, Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, and occasionally a celesta/glockenspiel, allowing for a broad stylistic palette that draws inspiration from classical composers like Ravel to hard rock acts like KoRn.
