Werner Momsen — Das Werner Unser – Max-Kramp-Haus, Hamburg

About this event

Werner Momsen is a life-size ventriloquized puppet performed by puppeteer and ventriloquist Detlef Wutschik. With a quintessentially North German directness, the character speaks both Standard German and Low German. In the program “Das Werner Unser,” Werner Momsen becomes a tongue-in-cheek “pastor,” inviting the audience into a self-styled “cathedral of entertainment.” The staging is minimalist, centering on the interplay between the puppet, the often-silent puppeteer in the background, and the audience. The show thrives on the illusion that the puppet is independent: made of polypropylene and foam, Momsen exploits his jester’s license to say things a human comedian might not dare. The production blends classic cabaret with refined puppet theater and wry, philosophical observations about everyday life.
