Freitagsakademie’s concert “Chiaroscuro” explores the extremes of human feeling within the Baroque repertoire. The programme juxtaposes cantatas, arias and instrumental works by Johann Sebastian Bach, his cousin Johann Bernhard Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and Georg Philipp Telemann. A focal point is Bach’s cantata BWV 170, “Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust.” The concept traces the interplay of light and shadow, revealing profound emotional contrasts.
