About this event

This concert, part of the Auckland Philharmonia's The New Zealand Herald Premier Series, is highlighted by the Australasian debut of Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland. Hadland will perform the renowned Piano Concerto by his compatriot, Edvard Grieg, a cornerstone of the romantic piano repertoire. The program balances the familiar and the rare, featuring Richard Strauss’s suite from Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme—much loved by orchestral players yet infrequently performed. The evening opens with Carl Nielsen’s Helios Overture, inspired by the sun over the Aegean Sea, setting a radiant tone. The journey moves from Nielsen’s sunlit expanse to Grieg’s passionate romanticism and concludes with Strauss’s witty neoclassicism. The music for this concert is supported by the Notes Fund via Steven Brodie.
