About this event

This concert program is built around the return of Chinese soprano Ying Fang, following her acclaimed Sydney debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2024. The performance showcases her voice, praised for its "polished delicacy, sweetness and strength without forcefulness," in the centerpiece: Canteloube's Songs of the Auvergne. The event is presented by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and led by Principal Guest Conductor Sir Donald Runnicles. The artistic concept contrasts three distinct musical landscapes, moving "from sun-drenched song to symphonic fire." Most dates open with Milhaud's playful Le Boeuf sur le Toit, evoking Parisian cabarets and early jazz. This is followed by the pastoral folk-inspired songs of Canteloube, and concludes with the emotional depth and architectural mastery of Brahms's Symphony No. 4. The program blends a core symphonic masterpiece with a folk-flavored song cycle and the wit of an early 20th-century ballet score to create a journey across "landscapes and lifetimes."
