Marina Abramović: Balkan Erotic Epic. The Stage Version transforms the artist’s seminal 2005 video series into a large-scale, communal live work. Conceived as a highlight of the Berliner Festspiele’s 75th anniversary season, the production revisits Balkan folklore in which erotic energy is understood as a primal source of power, knowledge and protection. Instead of the singular, durational presence that characterizes some of Abramović’s best-known works, this staging unfolds as a collective, polyphonic experience led by singers, dancers and musicians. The evening moves between celebration, prayer and liberation, invoking a ritual space where shame and moral codes are eclipsed by archaic force. Adapted specifically for the proscenium stage, it is distinct from the immersive “hangar version” created in Manchester. Content advisory: the production includes full nudity and simulated sexual acts and is restricted to audiences aged 18+.
